Setup guide · Step 4

Load Screens page

One page in your Rock where your team loads a series’ weeks and all their slides at once. It creates the weeks and slides in the RYS channels and links them in order. Images are stored in Rock and videos go to your R2 bucket through the Worker (see the Cloudflare R2 guide).

1 Fill in the block

Download load-screens-block.html, open it in a text editor, and set the two values near the top of the script:

  • workerUrl: your Worker’s address, e.g. https://rys-media.yourchurch.workers.dev
  • uploadToken: the Worker’s UPLOAD_TOKEN

In the file they start out as __WORKER_URL__ and __UPLOAD_TOKEN__.

2 Add the page

  1. Go to Admin Tools > CMS Configuration > Pages. Add a child page where your team will find it, for example under Tools, named Load Screens. Use the Full Width layout.
  2. On the page, add an HTML Content block. Edit it, switch to the code editor (the </> button), paste in the whole file, and save.
  3. Page Security: allow View for the Screens Editors role (and Rock Administration). Deny everyone else. The page contains the upload token, so only that team should be able to open it.

3 Create the Screens Editors role

Admin Tools > Security > Security Roles > Add, named Screens Editors. Add the people who load slides. Then grant:

Where Permission for Screens Editors
Admin Tools > Security > REST Controllers > ContentChannels (v1) View
REST Controllers > ContentChannelItems (v1) View, Edit
REST Controllers > ContentChannelItemAssociations (v1) View, Edit
Each of the five RYS – content channels (channel > Security) View, Edit
Admin Tools > Settings > File Types > Rock Your Screens Media > Security View, Edit

If publishing ever fails with “Not authorized to edit … on Image” (or on MediaUrl), also give Screens Editors Edit on those two attributes. They’re on the “Rock Your Screens” content channel type.

4 Check it

On the page, click Check setup. It confirms that Rock’s channels can be read and that the video host accepts the token.

How it works

  • Step 1: pick Ministry, then Room, then Series (or “+ New series…”). Rooms are skipped for ministries that don’t use them.

  • Step 2: choose the first new week and how many weeks. Dates step by 7 days. Week titles default to the date (“November 8”), and you can edit them.

  • Step 3: drop files into each week’s lane:

    • JPG / PNG: one slide each.
    • MP4: one video slide each, uploaded to R2 in 50 MB parts (no size limit).
    • PDF: one slide per page. Use this for PowerPoint, Keynote, Canva and Google Slides: export to PDF first.
    • ZIP: unpacked into its images, videos and PDFs, in file-name order.

Drag tiles to reorder them or to move them between weeks. Click a tile’s title to rename it.

  • Publish:

    • Each week’s files are uploaded first, then its week and slides are created and linked.
    • If anything fails, that week’s new items are removed and the error is shown. Uploaded files are kept, so publishing again is quick.
    • Weeks that already finished stay published.
  • Existing weeks: these show as “Published”. Use Add more slides to append slides to one.
